It's important for you to understand how counselling works, and how it helps you. Years ago, therapists tended to work mostly with 'the problem'. Counselling has grown since then, and we now look constantly for and focus on what a person or family does well.
Often, even in the middle of a difficult time, families have found their own ways to cope. My job is to work with families and individuals to find those strengths they haven't yet recognised, and allow those stories of resilience to emerge so they can be used to support you in times of crisis.
